I took the first two pictures a few weeks ago when I was away at the beach. I looked ahead and saw that we would be doing landscapes and wanted to be able to include my favorite landscapes. The beach has always been one of my favorite things to photograph and my favorite photographs to look at. This first one is my favorite from the 250 pictures I took. I like the contrast in the bright blue sky and the very white sand of the dunes. The second picture is more muted but still shows the beauty of the dunes. In both photos the ocean is just on the other side of the dunes.
In my second two pictures I chose to highlight my second favorite landscape, the mountains. I picked the two mountains that are part of my everyday life and I wanted to highlight them in different ways. I chose to highlight Stratton from a distance and I climbed up a little ways up Timber Ridge to get the picture there.
This is the view from Bromley to Stratton, the mountain in the distance is Stratton. On a clear day you can see all the trails.
This is Timber Ridge, this is the mountain that I live on and my hiking ground. I love the way that you can see the two different trails in the same photo and I like that the teepee from a recent festival is still on the mountain.
I like the beach photos. The Timber ridge one is also cool, but I wish you would have zoomed in a bit more on it. You did a good job capturing the structure with the rule of thirds.
ReplyDeleteThe dune shots are cool, the second one makes you think to see if it's beach or desert but I like it. I wish you had an angle to get the ocean in the view a little. Great job this week you did well in capturing different landscapes
ReplyDeleteI agree with Mike, that these photos are cool but there is something that seems to be lacking in them. If you really want to have a successful landscape photo then you want to include something that is exclusive.
ReplyDeleteThe Timber Ridge photo would be much more successful if you had walked over to it and included it in the foreground and then showed the rest of the trail looking up hill, or downhill. The beach photos could be taken with more of the dune grass in the foreground or include some of the ocean. You also want to be very careful about dividing the image area in half as with the beach photo. You could move that horizon line to the upper third or the lower third and then you would give more emphasis to either the ground or the sky. With equal weighting, the way it is now, it's difficult to understand what you're focusing on. Keep taking more photos of landscapes and try to find something that simple to focus on.
